Reward offered after abused puppy found abandoned in duffel bag

The discovery of an abused puppy, stuffed inside of a duffel bag and left on the steps of an animal shelter in Freeport, New York, has prompted the offering of a $5,000 reward. According to Wednesday’s NBC New York, the pit bull puppy, who is just three-months-old, was abandoned by a man on Saturday afternoon.

Surveillance cameras captured the moment that the blue duffel bag was left on the steps by what appears to be a man wearing a puffy black coat and black stocking cap. The pup, who has been dubbed “Cooper,” was severely dehydrated, covered in bite wounds, and hypothermic when he was first discovered.

Cooper is being cared for by the Bobbi and the Strays shelter, which describes him as “sweet and delicious.” The pup is recovering from his prior neglect and flourishing under the care of the shelter staff. According to the shelter, the pup is not yet available for adoption – their primary focus is to get him healthy.

Anyone with information about this situation is asked to reach out to the Animal Cruelty Stoppers Hotline at 516-THE-SPCA. The $5,000 reward is being offered by the Nassau County SPCA.
